We sat down with Malicious Women Candle Co. CEO Lacie Marsh-Carroll, who just celebrated the company’s fourth anniversary. Starting out making candles on her kitchen counter, Malicious Women Candle Co. now has a flagship store as well as a manufacturing center, but there is more to the story.

From Snohomish, Washington Lacie started this company in 2016 after going through some very hard times. Her father was in an accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury and a year and two days later, her sister was hit by a farm truck, while her daughter was also sick while serving in the Navy. During this same time, Lacie’s best friend Laura fell into the dark place of depression and took her own life, which ultimately broke Lacie as she is a natural empath and misses her friend.

Lacie begrudgingly went to therapy and her therapist instructed her to find a hobby, and that’s when she got into candlemaking. Lacie dedicated hours upon hours to candlemaking in her home and ended up with hundreds of candles laying around her house. In order to clear up her space, her therapist told her to throw a party and so Lacie invited all of her girlfriends over for a “shit show” party, and that’s where the “Shit Show” candle was born. Lacie and her friends wrote down “all of their shit” and then burned it. As labeled, the “Shit Show” candle is infused with chaos. Lacie’s friends posted the candle to a local garage sale page, and they sold 75 candles in the first night.

When asked how she came up with the name Malicious Women, Lacie says,

“Laura and I would talk all day, every day, about the things we wished we had the guts to say if we were just a little more malicious.”

The brand is growing beyond candles as it has a makeup line and is launching both a houseware line and a bridal line. A portion of every item sold goes to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in Laura’s name.
