Actor Clayton Froning joined us for a look at his journey in the film and television industry. Clayton is known for his roles in Walker, Temps, Humor Me, and Teen Wolf, and he has also done a myriad of voiceover work for video games.

Originally from Arizona, Clayton called in from Los Angeles, where he has been living for the last 15 years. The Walker actor shares,

“I was drawn into theater in high school, partially because I fell in love with this girl on the bus who was a drama geek, and I kind of just wanted to be close to her. I ended up really loving it. It was the place where I hung out all the time. I was a pretty good student, but if and when I ditched class, it was just to hang out in the theater.”

After high school ended, Clayton was interested in natural medicine with the intention of pursuing a career as an acupuncturist or chiropractor. Luckily, though, his degree required an art credit, and having been familiar with it, Clayton chose theater and was quickly reacquainted with his true passion. He went on to transfer into the theater department and graduate with a BFA from the University of Arizona.

After graduation, Clayton landed a few contract roles, one, in particular, was for his role in A Christmas Carol, but when that contract ran out, Clayton knew he faced a choice: go back to Tucson or make the big move to LA?

Fifteen years later, Clayton is still thriving in Hollywood and he is happy he made the choice that ultimately led him to his work in film and television.

” The best thing I ever did for myself as a performer is starting to do improv. I started in college as sort of a fun side thing. At the time I didn’t realize that’s when I was really learning. I carry that stuff with me everywhere I go.”

Throughout the pandemic, Hollywood has closed down quite a bit but Clayton still found himself landing a role on The CW’s Walker, alongside Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki.

Walker is an updated spin on the classic and follows Texas Ranger Cordell Walker (Padalecki), who can’t seem to leave his troubles behind him. Clayton’s role is of Jaxon, who is part of a gang called “The Rodeo Kings”, who have come to collect money they believe is theirs.

This gang of bad guys, including Clayton, comes to town and the actor says,

“My character Jaxon is a bit of a problem, which is just my favorite thing in the world to play. My number one castings are always dumb-but-likable or dumb-but-a-problem. As long as there’s some level of dumb in there I feel like I really shine. And this is a really problematic dumb guy.”
